Post  AngelaJoy Sat Sep 12, 2009 11:02 am

Hi... I dont post in this section a ton.

I just started school ( Practical Nursing Program) Last Thursday... September third
It's really overwhelming. We only have two classes a day... it doesn't seem like a lot when I say two classes, right? well, they're both about three hours long. We do get a full hour lunch break
but there is a ton of work, and i feel overwhelmed.
Right now I have a class called VR (vocational relationships) and that's basically just all about how nursing started, nursing laws and ethics... HIPPA (thats the privacy policy medical people must uphold.. basically... we dont tell anyone anything unless you gave us specific permission to do so)

and thats not terrible.. its a review since I'm a medical assisstant and had to learn this stuff for that
We also have an Anatomy and Physiology... my dad used to clean dorm rooms at a nursing school, and said the nursing students all took the class and called it agravation and persecution.
Its a really hard class. We have to learn one chapter within a day or two... a whole entire body system
and I've had school from 8-3 everyday... and then come home and do homework for 4 or five hours

basically this is just a vent, but feel free to respond... or share if your feeling overwhelmed with the new classes your taking, new school... some of you maybe new in college

some of you already knew i'm really not on much anymore (the girls that read my fan fics)

i am definitely feeling the same way! i'm a freshman in college and i knew i would be getting a ton of work but i was not expecting the amount of work i have been getting. what the teacher assigns on top of what they expect you to do on your own is so much. i am definitely overwhelmed too.
i guess its all just an adjustment and hopefully i will get used to all of it.

so, as of yesterday I was failing one of my classes Vocational Relationships... its basically history of nursing, HIPAA, comunication and stuff like that.
We had our first test yesterday and I bombed it... The questions were worded all weird and stuff, but I knew the material.. I just didnt do well cuz of the wording

anyway, i took another test today, and I did really well, and also had a presentation which i did well on (we get all our grades the same day we take the test)

I'm officially passing! I"m so glad. i was getting so scared i was gonna have to retake it

I think getting adjusted to expectations is always the hardest part.. your just trying to figure out how to manage your time, how to study, and all the school work you have, on top of finding time for breaks and for friends

I did college one year, and i failed misserably (dont let me saying that get you down) its 100% completely my fault.. I showed up at class, did the in class work and took the tests but did absolutely no studying, or homework assignments... I could have at least passed... especially english.. it was all writing, and i've always done well in that

anyway, point is, once you learn a routine, things will get better. I hated the part where there is so much to do on your own, cuz i need more accountability for school work than that.

yeah, making time for everything is definitely one of the hardest parts so far. and since i have started college i have become such a procrastinator. its bad. i used to work so hard in high school that i realized i was putting in way too much effort than i needed to, so now i still work hard but don't put in as much effort, and i think that i have all kinds of time to do things, so i put them off and then i realize that i have tons of work to do and no time to do it. so i work for hours, go to bed really late each night, and then wake up earlier then i need to so i can finish the work i need to finish. and i have 8am classes everyday, so sometimes i need to wake up as early as 5 to make sure i finish.

i always thought i was so on top of things, but this new lifestlye has made me realize that i'm not, and i need to start.

maybe if you get the assignments done- or at least get a good start on them they day they are assigned, that would work?
we didt have a ton of work in my medical assistant class, but i did the assignment the same day right away, even though we had like a week for everything. that way it was done and never had to worry about it

vent--- everyone in school was stressing/worrying and anxious all day today... we tested on skills today, and its our first time testing skills (nursing skills we had to do on each other or a manikin depending on what we pulled)
so this girl next to me, she was talking to me throughout half the morning asking where to find this, and that, are you on this yet.... on the work we were supposed to be doing while waiting.. i mean, she's one that tries, and does do her work, so i dont mind helping her, but she was also extreeemly nervous and let it show, talking soo much... and distracting me about how nervous she was and saying how nervous about the testing she was.

alot of other people were talking to, but the girl next to me is always worried and thinks she'll fail every test.... she's getting mid range B's... serioulsy, she's got nothing to worry about. its just getting annoying how much she's talking about not understanding something or worrying about tests and stuff.

someone just like that sits next to me in my english class! every class she says the same thing...how shes nervous about her grades and everything when she has been to every class and does the work and has not failed anything so she has nothing to worry about. it is definitely annoying, she says it every class!

its ok... the lectures are easier than they have been... we're studying child development this week, so its kind of a break from the intensity

we have a group project due on Friday... four in a group, and its a group grade.. . i hate group grades, cuz theres always someone who does nothing, and someone stuck with most of it... i dont want to work my butt off and someone do nothing, and still both get the grade... or i do my part, they dont do their part, so grade is pulled down..
    you know?
and we have two that i'm concerned about pulling their own weight

but its okay... i told the one that we all have to be prepared for anythign without directly telling her that i was worried about her.. ya know

sounds like she'll pull her own weight this time around, and one of the others will... still wondering about the other... yesterday she seemed like she would, but who knows
